Remove hidden author information from a PDF before you send it
A PDF exported from Word or another app often records the name on that computer's account, the program and when it was edited. Here is how to clear it, free and without uploading the file.
What a PDF can reveal
- Title, author, subject and keywords, often filled in automatically from the original document or the computer's account.
- The program that made the file, and when it was created and last changed.
- The names of people who left comments on it.
Steps
- Open Remove author info and drop one PDF.
- Press Run. There is nothing to set.
- Download the cleaned PDF.
- Open it and look at the document properties in your PDF app: author and title are empty.
What it does not remove
- Names or details written on the pages themselves. Use Black out (redact) for those.
- Information inside pictures, such as a letterhead or a signature.
- What was typed into form fields.
- The file name. Rename the file before sending it.
